It is no secret that the quickest way to ruin an airsoft AEG is by using sub-par BB’s. Unfortunately, crappy BB aftermath is still one of the largest technical issues we encounter here at Airsoft Megastore. Many airsofters purchase lower grade BB’s at their local sporting goods store, only to quickly discover that their AEG no longer fires. Many wrongly attribute the problem to a defective gun, when in truth the crappy BB’s have shattered and lodged into their guns gears and internals.

Putting crappy BB’s in your airsoft gun can - and probably will - ruin many of your guns internal components and void out your warranty. It goes without saying, but if you invest in a quality airsoft AEG, you should also invest in quality airsoft BBs to protect your firearm for the long haul. Likewise, if you are buying an airsoft gun as a present, be sure to also purchase the right type of BB’s so that the recipient can use the firearm right away, without disappointment.

So What Makes a Good Quality Airsoft BB?

Simply put, a good quality airsoft pellet is perfectly spherical and seamless. A perfectly spherical airsoft BB will give you an edge on the field with greater accuracy and better range. Likewise, the BB should not be manufactured with a seam as a seam creates stress points which encourage the BB to shatter upon firing. Not only does this affect your velocity and FPS, but it will jam up your internals. Many lower grade BBs – especially the ones you find at sporting goods stores - claim to be “seamless” when in fact, they are manufactured with a seam and then polished down. The polishing may disguise the seam’s appearance, but the composition of the BB is still compromised. The stress points around the seam will lead to shattered BB parts that will infect your gearbox. For this reason, you cannot trust BB can labels… but rather do your research and only use BB brands that are widely respected and proven to be high quality.

You can imagine what those shattered crappy BB’s would do to the sophisticated internal parts of your best AEG!
